AISD GO Project Internship at Water 2 Wine South Austin
The GO Project is a community based, transition program for students with disabilities who are 18-22 years of age. The program enables students to move beyond the high school setting and finish their education in a college or work environment. The GO Project promotes adult living skills, participates in activities related to all areas of transition and develops relationships with same age peers. Students involved with the GO Project complete internship hours while learning valuable professional and interpersonal skills. Students currently completing internship hours at Water 2 Wine South Austin are:
Bryan "Ryan" Belding
"I like to play games on my phone and swim. I don't know what type of job I want to have, but I am a good worker."
"I like to bowl and swim. I just got a job working at Randall's bagging groceries and I love it!"
"I would like to be a hairdresser, a model or work in a clothing store. My favorite things to do are swim, bowl and play basketball. I am very friendly!"
Jackson "Jack" Gray
"I like to participate in Special Olympics, I have many medals and ribbons. I would like to have a job working in a clothing store."
"I would like a computer related job. I am interested in computer programing and font design. My favorite things to do are look at maps, character encoding, e.g. unicode and chess move variances."
"I like to play video games, listen to music and play with my hedgehog. I would like to be a voice actor because I am very interested in acting. "
"I would like to have a job helping out with a baseball team or work with handicap people playing sports. I volunteer with the St. Edward's baseball team and softball team. I like to lift weights and play baseball. I also like to hang out with friends and watch baseball games on TV."
Gerardo "Gerry" Saucedo-Padron
"My favorite thing to do is to spend time with my family. I am a very hard worker and I am very polite and friendly. I would like to work in a grocery store bagging groceries or roll silverware at a restaurant."
Jo-Ting "Kiki" Wang
"I would like to go to college and work at an animal shelter because I love animals. My favorite things to do are listen to music, watch the news, play with my rabbits and draw".
The goal of the program is to provide a mixture of hands on experiences in the community to prepare students for adult life. The desired outcome of the GO Project is that students will have the skills, resources and opportunities they need to lead a full and meaningful life.
